Mikael R. Hedné (b. 1988) is a Norwegian performing artist working at the intersection of psychology, the art of illusion, and music. With master’s degrees from the University of Bergen (psychology) and the Norwegian Academy of Music (folk singing and conducting), he brings a rare combination of academic depth and artistic storytelling to the stage.
Psychological Illusions and Stage Entertainment
On stage, Hedné creates an experience where audiences begin to doubt their own thoughts. His sleight of hand is exceptional, his psychological illusions astonishing, and his ability to combine this with warm humour creates an experience that is discussed long after the event is over. With his humble and elegant demeanour, he delivers magical effects with precision and a twinkle in his eye – and up close, the magic becomes, if anything, even stronger.
Hedné is the Norwegian champion of stage magic (2017) and has captivated audiences from San Diego to Stockholm and Shanghai, with appearances on Penn & Teller: Fool Us and Norway’s Got Talent. He has performed for clients such as Equinor, EY, DnB, and Bank of India – whether mingling with close-up magic among guests, delivering a full show of mentalism and mind reading from the stage, or hosting as MC throughout the evening.
Talks and Research
Hedné gives talks that unite academic insight with the performing artist’s gift for communication. His specialisation is intuition and implicit learning – how we think, choose, and solve problems without knowing it ourselves. His research is published in Frontiers in Psychology and has been presented at Columbia University, MIT, and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, among others.
Music
Hedné is a trained folk singer and conductor, having studied with Berit Opheim, Odd Nordstoga, Unni Løvlid, and Grete Pedersen. He is a seljefløyte (willow flute) player and artistic director of the award-winning women’s choir Multa Paucis, which under his leadership has become a trailblazer in vocal folk music for choir – with a fearless approach to the kveding tradition. He is also conductor of EKHO.
